Berger, Ways of Seeing Chapter 1
"The way we see things is affected by what we know or what we believe."
I agree with this quote because it is true that our perception creates our form of reality. Based off of our cultural norms and values that are instilled within us since the beguining of our times, we are really affected by our perceptions of reality.
"Soon after we can see, we are aware that we can also be seen. The eye of the other combines with our own eye to make it fully credible that we are part of the visible world."
Once we open our eyes to perception we are able to see more things clearly and understand things better. Sometimes spiritually our 3rd eye is awokened and we are now able to see things that we were not able to see before. An awarness comes over us and we become more aware of our reality.
Widewalls | Yoko Ono - A Groundbreaking Artist, Activist and Fighter
"As she explained, art represents a way of showing people how you can think, and even though some people think of it as a beautiful wallpaper that you can sell, Yoko Ono rather perceives it as a direct connection with activism."
This quote interest me because everyone perceives art differently. To me I view the art in a certain way, but the artist may have a way deeper meaning towards the piece.
"The piece was lauded as an enactment of the physical vulnerability of women in a world where they are reduced to mere objects for looking at."
This quote stuck out to me because woman are always seemed to be less than in any felid. And no matter where in the world you go, woman all feel the same way and live similar realities.
Hispanic Executive | Interview with Shaun Leonardo - Performance, Pedagogy, and Philosophy
That is echoed by visual elements in the space: the windows on one side are obscured by mirrors, so you continuously see your own image as you pass through and take in these prompts.
You are basically watching your own self and see yourself in different ways because you are around tons of mirrors and you can see yourself in lots of different angles and spaces.
I think the larger challenge surrounding not only the pandemic but also the converging crises of racial justice, reproductive rights, and everything else is the immediacy with which we are being called upon to act.
I think this was interesting because during covid we all faced our own problems. Sometimes we may not communicate what we went through, but everyone went through something during these hard times.
NYTimes | Being Marina Abromovic
But when the project’s budget ballooned out of her control (Koolhaas’s plans alone were estimated to be $31 million, which didn’t include the handling of the theater’s pre-existing asbestos problem) and her fund-raising efforts fell short (a Kickstarter only got her to a little over half a million dollars), Abramović decided to turn it into something that didn’t depend on a physical location.
Since I was always painting, my aunts and relatives and friends of my relatives would order pieces from me. They would come and say: “We would like to have sunflowers, an open window and a full moon.” Or another would say: “I would like more tulips with the fish, cut a little onion, cut a little lemon and make the curtain move in the wind.” In 20 minutes, I was done and then I got some money.
I wanted to react to these quotes as 1 response because to me they go hand an hand. In the first quote it speaks about an estimated $31million. Where in the second she came from humble beginnings selling artwork to her family members. It is interesting because we never see these humble beginnings and start up times but usually we see the artist once they've already made it. We all start up from the bottom and have to. build our way up.
