Carrie Mae Weems - Kitchen Table Series
Recreation
A lot of what is from Carrie Mae Weems's Kitchen Table Series is what goes on at here table on an everyday basis. So I thought to recreate that. Unfortunately there is a lot of junk on my kitchen Table but that's just kind of how it is here. So it an accurate representation of what my table is like.
“I think that most work that’s made by Black artists is considered to be about Blackness. Unlike work that’s made by white artists, which is assumed to be universal at its core.”
For the longest time and probably still the today, the black experience is hardly ever shown to the degree that the white experience was. This c cause it to be looked at unique when the experiences shown can often be related to by anyone. It is a human experience after all.
"Men can see the women in their lives—memories from their childhood or scenes from their marriage or their family life. "
Self-portriats are like mirrors in a way. When you make one you are looking at yourself in that period of time. They can reject the state of mind you were in at that point in your life.
