- Carrie's artwork of " The Kitchen Table Series" inspired me to recreate what I do on an everyday basis. Im always at a table reading a book.
Susan Sontag Quotes
1 - "To photograph is to appropriate the thing photographed. It means putting oneself into a certain relation to the world that feels like knowledge -- and, therefore, like power."
2 - "What is written about a person or an event is frankly an interpretation, as are handmade visual statements, like paintings and drawings. Photographed images do not seem to be statements about the world so much as pieces of it, miniatures of reality that anyone can make or acquire."
When reading these quotes that caught my attention, she goes on about how photography changes our view on the world and that photos can turn into knowledge and power. Contrasts of the photos and emphasizing it are sometimes seen like a miny version of a reality. Photography may lead into a more abstract of an understanding of our world.
1 - “there is the span of a romantic relationship: at first warm and intimate, then cold and wanting”
This talks about relationships. At first a
relationship would be warm and intimate, and this can go on for days, months, and
years. Later on, time does change in a relationship, and it leads people to being
cold to one another but wanting one another because of how much time that two
person had spent together. That’s what I'm getting from this quote.
2 - “Everyone can relate to this work,” Sann
said. “It’s not just Black women; it’s white women, Asian women. Men can see
the women in their lives—memories from their childhood or scenes from their
marriage or their family life. It’s so universal and yet representation like
this is so rare.”
The works that you see to be Black women
and their daily lives, many women can also relate to what a home looks like on
a daily basis and its so rare to see it photographed.
