“Frida Kahlo Was a Printer, a Brand Builder, a Survivor. And So Much More”, Rebecca Kleinman
“People have an insatiable curiosity with her, and this presentation is a rare opportunity to see how she built her identity,” said Catherine Morris”
I’ve always been fascinated with Frida Kahlo because I feel like she's one of those artists that everyone knows yet still remains pretty mysterious. I’ve had the privilege to see some of Kahlo’s pieces in person and they are truly one of a kind, especially since a lot of them are portraits, it’s interesting to see how she perceives herself.
“Ms. Morris said. “People have described her as broken and fragile, but she was strong and accomplished a tremendous amount in her lifetime.””
Kahlo rising above people’s expectations because of her disability is so inspirational. Even after surgeries, Kahlo still found the will to paint. She didn’t let her disability restrict her and even explored them, using her casts as a canvas.

I was heavily inspired by Kahlo’s surrealist style to make my own version using Photoshop instead of paint and to make it look more like a collage. As far as why I chose certain elements, it was all stylistic, and for aesthetic purposes, I really just wanted the piece to have a trippy and whimsical effect.
