I was heavily inspired by Yoko Ono for this. Specifically her instructions pieces. The simple nature of how they can make you think of an idea for a moment or as she said "creating a vessel through which she viewed artistry as the absence of complexity, a vacuum through which she was led to a state of complete relaxation of mind" It really gets your mind working. I wanted to make a video of one of them. The challenge was how duo I do that while dressing a political issue.
What I decided on was taking on of my instruction pieces we did in class and alter it to fit what I was going for. I took the calk piece by then decided to draw something with a bit of meaning behind. what it need up being about was the financial situation at Njcu. How us as an already less financially stable university lost our money. In away I think it speaks to us as a university with a large amount of minorities. It tells are stories. Similar to Carrie Mae Weems. “I think that most work that’s made by Black artists is considered to be about Blackness. Unlike work that’s made by white artists, which is assumed to be universal at its core.” although different I think it is a universal struggle we find our selves in.
"Men can see the women in their lives—memories from their childhood or scenes from their marriage or their family life. " Although I was thinking about Njcu when I made this idea can be tied to anything. It can be tied to multiple moments of my life as well.
