Art That Looks at What Women See quote
QUOTE: “Today that may not sound so special, but then in those times it was
incredibly important,” she said. “They created a shift, a change in
perspective, from being the model, the person a painter is looking at, to being
the painter herself.” From Theodora Vischer
RESPONSE: She talks about how women’s role in art has changed and because of that, back then, women were used as models just for male painters. Becuase of this women had started getting tired of being seen like objects so they broke free from that and became painters.

More: Ana Mendieta's quote
QUOTE: “Nothing that she did ever surprised me,” Mendieta’s sister, Raquelín told New York Times. “She was always very dramatic, even as a child — and liked to push the envelope, to give people a start, to shock them a little bit. It was who she was, and she enjoyed it very much. And she laughed about it sometimes when people got freaked out.”
RESPONSE: The courage that Ana was showing was a huge part like it was a way of who she was and how she really expressed herself with her art. This made us and everyone understand her personality and her artworks.
READINGS: John Berger Chapter 2 + 3
QUOTE: “By contrast, a woman's presence expresses her
own attitude to herself, and defines what can and cannot be done to her
period.”
RESPONSE: For a woman, what she does, is a reflection of the way how she sees herself and
if she was or were to disrespect herself then she is allowing the world to not
appreciate her and make her seem she's weak. Many
women starts to think that everything they do is just to meet the standards of
being around men.
QUOTE: “The way the painter has painted her includes
her will and her intentions in the very structure of the image, in the very
expression of her body and her face.”
RESPONSE: Women were only ever painted just for the entertainment for men. Misogyny is
everywhere and we are still to this day that men still thinks that we should me
owned and be treasured and shown off as a prize that was won at a fair. Us
women were expected to not talk back, submit to your partner no matter what and
can’t do things or go out almost as if we should stay like a wife-house from
back in time.
